In Rally the dog and handler work through a course designed by a judge.

The course will have 15-20 signs that when you come to that sign you are to complete the exercise with your dog that the sign instructs you to do. The Rally class is designed to teach you the exercise required for each sign and to help you learn how to work with your dog to successfully complete the exercises. The Novice (Beginning) level of Rally is done on-leash and the more advanced levels are done off-leash.

For the Rally class we require that you have completed at least 1 obedience class since you will need basis obedience skills such as heeling, recalls and stay in place all the while having good attention from your dog.

There are 3 Levels of Competition

Novice

  • All exercises are done on-leash.
  • You may clap your hands and pat your leg to encourage your dog.
  • A minimum of 10 signs is used.

Advanced

  • All exercises are done off-leash.
  • You may clap your hands and pat your leg to encourage your dog.
  • A minimum of 12 signs is used.

Excellent

  • All exercises are done off-leash.
  • You may not clap your hands and pat your leg to encourage your dog, although you can do so verbally.
  • A minimum of 15 signs is used.
  • Your dog must stay either in a sitting or a down position (judge’s choice) while another dog is working.  This is done on-leash
